Limited-edition lithograph, titled Home Run Hero, by noted sports artist Danny Day, signed by Mickey Mantle. This is a unique piece for two reasons. First is the fact that Mantle has signed the piece in black fine-point marker, as opposed to pencil. Second is that in addition to his signature, Mantle has added the inscription "No. 7/536 HR's - H.O.F. 1974." Both the signature and inscription have been flawlessly executed and grade "10." Hand-numbered "370/536" in the lower left margin. Signed by the artist in pencil (grading "10") in the lower right margin. To truly appreciate this piece, collectors must first understand its history. When this piece was released, all 536 numbered impressions were signed by Mickey Mantle, with Mantle's signature obtained through the services of The Upper Deck Company. However, to the best of our knowledge, all of the numbered impressions, with the exception of this example, were signed by Mantle in pencil, and most important, none included the additional notations seen here. As such, this is a unique "1 of 1" example. Ideally, it is accompanied by a photo of Mantle (fine-point marker in hand) as he gets ready to sign it, as well an Upper Deck COA. The lithograph (19 x 19.25 inches) is in apparent Near Mint condition and has been matted and framed together with the aforementioned photo of Mantle. Total dimensions: 26 x 30 inches. COA from Upper Deck and auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
