Roberto Clemente store-model bat, signed by legendary Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson. The bat displays a handle crack that has been repaired by an approximate 6.5-inch wrap of white athletic tape. It is upon that tape that Robinson penned his name, inscribing it "Best Wishes/Jackie Robinson." Both the salutation and signature have been scripted in blue ink and grade "8." (Given the poor writing surface of wood, Robinson either decided himself or was requested by the original owner to sign the bat on the tape instead of the barrel.) Jackie Robinson signed bats are rare. This is one of only a few full-sized bats we have ever seen signed by Robinson and the first we have ever offered. As such, it represents a unique and highly desirable Robinson-signed item dating from the last few years of his life (Robinson died in 1972; the bat dates to the circa 1970 manufacturing period). Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
