Sonnett "Official League" ball signed by Jimmie Foxx across the sweet spot. Foxx's signature has been scripted in black fountain pen and grades "7/8." Jimmie Foxx single-signed balls are, along with those of Mel Ott, the most elusive of all 500 Home Run Club members. This is a particularly fine example, with the signature contrasting well against the cream-colored background. The Sonnett sporting-goods company began in 1933, but did not begin using the Sonnett name until the late 1940s (William Sonnett founded the company). The company was later purchased by Wilson Sporting Goods in December 1954, but its products continued to carry the Sonnett name until the late 1960s. Foxx, one of the greatest sluggers in baseball history, finished his career with a .325 lifetime average and was the second player in history (after Ruth) to amass over 500 home runs. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1951 and passed away in 1967 at the age of sixty. The ball displays a few small areas of light, scattered age toning and is otherwise in Excellent to Mint condition. This is an outstanding mid- to-high-grade Foxx single and one that would be a welcome addition to any advanced Hall of Fame single-signed ball collection. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open).
