Collection of nine autographed 1939 Playball cards, highlighted by Hall of Famer Hank Greenberg, all of which have been encapsulated by SGC. Ideally, for six of the cards, SGC has graded both the card and the autograph (signatures are graded on a scale of "1" to "10"). Unless otherwise noted, all of the cards have been signed on the front in blue ink. As one might expect, nearly all of the players featured in the 1939 Playball set are deceased, including all of the players represented here (year of death noted in our listing).

The six cards for which SGC has graded both the card and signature are #4 Elden Auker (card: VG 40; autograph: 7 [in black ink]; d. 2006), 37 Spud Davis (card: VG/EX 50; autograph: 8 [in blue Sharpie]; d. 1984), 44 Don Heffner (card: VG/EX 50; autograph: 8; d. 1989), 56 Hank Greenberg (card: VG 40; autograph: 8; d. 1986), 72 Debs Garms (card: VG/EX 50; autograph: 7; d. 1984), and 99 Wally Berger (card: VG/EX+ 55; autograph: 9; d. 1988).

The remaining three cards in this collection are #5 Luke Sewell (POOR 10; we grade the signature "8"; d. 2006), 61 Tony Cuccinello (card grades Poor due to a tack hole near the top; signature grades "9"; d. 1995), and 81 Babe Dahlgren (card grades Gd-Vg; signature grades "9/10"; d. 1996). This is an outstanding and very pleasing collection of nine different cards from this classic 1930s gum-card set. Total: 9 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
