Official American League (Harridge) ball signed in black fountain pen by the following fourteen members of the circa 1938 New York Yankees: Gehrig (sweet spot; grading "4/5"), McCarthy (Mgr; sweet spot), DiMaggio, Gomez, Dickey, Ruffing, Gordon, Rolfe, Hadley, Selkirk, Henrich, Crosetti, Chandler, and Pearson. Signatures range from "2" to "6," averaging "4." All of the players whose signatures appear on this ball played with the Yankees in both 1938 and 1939. Ideally, both years were marked by World Championships for the club, making this a significant Yankees ball dating from the club's memorable 1936 to 1939 World Championship dynasty. It is also important to note the authentic Joe McCarthy signature on this ball, which is the exception rather than the rule for this time period (most McCarthy signatures on 1930s Yankees team balls are "clubhouse" versions). The ball is lightly toned, with a few small abrasions, but all of the manufacturer's stampings remain legible. In Very Good condition overall. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000.
