Graded MINT 96 by SGC (submitted by REA). This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! Ultra-high-grade example of Philadelphia Athletics Hall of Fame pitcher Eddie Plank from the M116 Sporting Life set, one of the most popular of all 1910-era issues. This is the finest example we have ever offered of one of the era's most noteworthy cards. This rare card is popular on many counts, including the fact that the portrait is so similar in appearance to the famous T206 Plank and dates from the same era. M116s have always been highly appreciated by collectors for their distinctive style and rarity relative to the more commonly seen tobacco cards of the era. Eddie Plank is one of the key cards of the series, and the offered example features the portrait of Plank set against a white background. This is a stunning card in all respects! All four corners are perfect and razor-sharp. The card is perfectly clean, both front and back, with snow-white borders, and flawless registration. The boldly printed Sporting Life advertisement on the reverse is centered just a hint to the bottom left. This card would be a significant addition to even the most advanced vintage-card collection, and a centerpiece to any high-grade M116 Sporting Life, Eddie Plank, or Hall of Fame card collection. The equivalent SMR value in the assigned grade is $5,500. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+.
