Remarkably rare and elaborately designed 1900 Cincinnati Reds silver season pass. This is a virtually impossible-to-find rarity and one of the true "holy grails" of all season passes. During the early 1900s, a few major league teams, most notably the Cincinnati Reds and New York Giants, produced elaborately designed sterling silver passes for high-ranking executives and dignitaries. Unfortunately, their limited production has resulted in only a handful of survivors. Presented here is the first 1900 Cincinnati Reds season pass we have ever offered. The attractive embossed design features a dapper patron, bearing top hat and cane, being ushered through the front gate of the grandstand by an attendant. The complementary text reads "1900 Cincinnati Base Ball Park The Open Door to C. G. Lloyd with compliments of John Brush, President." Only the name of the recipient is engraved (as intended); all design elements of the pass are in relief. This is the first 1900 Cincinnati Reds sterling silver season pass we have ever offered and only a few other examples are known. We have also examples for 1898, 1899, and 1902. (Presumably there is also a 1901 pass.) All are equally rare. We are not 100% sure if these are sterling silver or just plated, but advanced collectors have always referred to them as sterling silver passes. The recipient of this pass, C. G. Lloyd, was the younger brother of Nelson Ashley Lloyd, who for many years was part owner of the Reds with John T. Brush. The pass (3.25 x 2.5 inches) displays normal tarnishing consistent with its age and is in Excellent to Mint condition. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $10,665
