Official American League (Cronin) ball signed in black ink by thirty-three members of the 1972 New York Yankees, including Munson, Murcer (sweet spot), Peterson (sweet spot), Stottlemyre (sweet spot; blue ink), Houk (Mgr.), Torres, Spikes, Beene, Kenney, Klimkowski, White, Howard (coach), Alou, McDaniel, Lyle, Allen, Lanier, Swoboda, Bloomberg, Kline, Cox, Ellis (clubhouse signature), Gardner, Gowell, Kekich, Sanchez, and Michael. Signatures range from "6" to "8," averaging "7." This ball was originallly obtained at Tiger Stadium in Detroit in 1972. According to our consignor, one of his friends knew pitcher Mel Stottlemyre. After meeting Stottlemyre and getting his signature on the ball, Stottlemyre then offered to get the signatures of the whole team (which would explain why his signature alone is in blue ink). Taking the ball with him into the clubhouse, Stottlemyre returned a short time afterwards with thirty additional signatures. Because of the wonderful memories associated with this ball, our consignor has taken remarkable care of it over the years. The cream-colored ball displays only the slightest hint of age toning and all of the manufacturer's stampings remain legible. In Near Mint condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $948
