This collection of 281 autographs is comprised entirely of individuals who enjoyed a distinguished baseball career as an executive, manager, umpire, or announcer. All but four of the signatures (duly noted below) appear alone on either a lined or unlined 3 x 5-inch card and only two duplicates (Haywood Sullivan and Ted Turner) are represented here. Nine Hall of Fame signatures appear in the collection (Boudreau, Herzog, Schoendienst, Weaver, McCarthy, Kuhn, Barlick, and Harvey), as do those of many notables in their respective fields, including thirteen announcers who were past recipients of the Ford C. Frick Award, which is presented annually by the Baseball Hall of Fame. Our consignor began amassing this collection in the early 1970s and continued adding signatures year by year right up until the turn of the century. Signatures were obtained by mail or in person. Because he started so long ago, it is not surprising that almost half of the signers represented here (126) are now deceased.
Nearly all of the signatures, which have been penned in a variety of inks (including Sharpie), grade "9" or "10." A small number of cards have been personalized to our consigner and many feature either a salutation and/or brief biographical data listed by the respective player.
