Extremely rare 1934 Japanese "Tour of Japan" baseball ticket, for the game at Yokohama Stadium on November 18th, featuring the boldly penned signatures of both Babe Ruth and Lefty O'Doul on the reverse. Each player has flawlessly signed the piece in black fountain pen (grading "10"), with the signatures prefaced by the inscription (not in Ruth's hand), "To Sven Jordan/With best wishes/from." Even unsigned, this is a remarkably rare and significant ticket! It is one of only two examples that we have ever seen or heard of (the other had no signatures) from the only game of the 1934 tour played at Yokohama Stadium. The U.S. All-Stars defeated the Japanese stars 21-4 in front of 15,000 spectators. Lefty Gomez was the winning pitcher. Babe Ruth hit two home runs; Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, and Earl Averill also each homered. The American All-Stars played a total of eighteen exhibition games in twelve cities in Japan during the 1934, winning every game. Lefty O'Doul was a frequent visitor to Japan, having taken part in numerous baseball tours; however, Ruth only visited the country once, in 1934 as part of the United States All-American baseball team. This particular ticket was issued for a seat located behind home plate (row L, seat 33), which was a premium seat as noted by its cost of three yen (less desirable seats cost one yen). It is likely that the close proximity to the field resulted in this patron gaining access to two of the American team's biggest stars. The design of the ticket features illustrations of both the American and Japanese flags on the front, as well as a decorative border. The date of the game is stamped on the left side of the ticket. The ticket (3.5 x 2.5 inches), which is printed on heavy paper stock, displays cancellation stamps and perforations, as well as a few minor creases. In Very Good to Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $5,333
