Four-page fold-over contract, dated April 3, 1945, between Rick Ferrell and the Washington American League Baseball Club, signed in blue fountain pen by "Richard Ferrell" (grading "10") and in black fountain pen by "Clark C. Griffith" as president. Also signed on the front in black ink by William Harridge ("9") as American League President. The one-year contract, for the 1945 season, calls for Ferrell to receive a salary of $9,000. This was Ferrell's penultimate player's contract, as he retired after the 1946 season. Ferrell appeared in 91 games with the Senators in 1945, finishing the year with 1 home run, 38 RBI, and a .266 average. Known for his outstanding defensive abilities as a catcher, Ferrell was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1984. 104 of Hall of Fame players are rare and the offered example is no exception. This is the first Ferrell contract we have ever offered and we cannot recall having seen any others at public auction. The contract (8.5 x 11 inches) displays two horizontal folds and is in Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $8,295
