Graded FAIR 20 by SGC. 1889 N172 Old Judge of Hall of Famer "Comiskey, Capt., St. Louis" dating from his playing days as leader and player-manager of the legendary World Champion St. Louis Browns. This card features a very unusual and striking sliding pose presented on a vertically designed card. This is an exceptionally attractive technically low-grade card. Extremely clean front, with particularly strong photo contrast and detail, and four square corners. The blank reverse has a light surface crease (visible only on the reverse) and glue residue in the center which is responsible for its harsh technical grade. The front is in Excellent condition! This is a magnificent, very high quality Hall of Famer Old Judge example of "The Old Roman," Charles Comiskey, and one that (with all due respect to the glue stains on the reverse) would be very much at home in any world-class Old Judge, Hall of Famer, or quality vintage-card collection. This card is one of the highlights from a larger collection of N172 cards, which we have broken down into several smaller lots in the auction. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++.
