Graded NM 84 by SGC. Magnificent high-grade example of one of the most popular of all Lou Gehrig cards, and universally recognized as one of the most classic of all 1930s bubble-gum cards: the 1934 Goudey #37 featuring Gehrig's portrait, perhaps the finest likeness of Lou Gehrig to ever appear on any card. Gehrig was the spokesman of Goudey for the 1934 set, appearing on wrappers, in advertisements, and on posters for the gum company. The 1934 Goudey "Lou Gehrig says..." series features an additional Gehrig portrait on the front, and words by him on the reverse. It is easy to see why many consider this to be the ultimate Lou Gehrig card. This is a stunning example: Bright and clean, front and back, with perfect colors, flawless registration, and four sharp corners. The reverse of the card is also extremely clean, with bold green text. Simply a beautiful example in all respects of one of Gehrig's most desirable cards, and the key card from this classic 1930s bubble-gum card series. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grade is $7,750. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+.
