Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Very high-grade example of 1887 N172 Old Judge of Hall of Famer Mike "King" Kelly (#254-6 pose), identified as "$10,000 Kelly." Kelly earned this nickname when he was sold from Boston to Chicago following the 1887 season for this then-unheard-of sum. This card was one of the highlights of a large totally untouched collection of N172 cards consigned to this auction, which was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. Perfectly clean front, with square corners, excellent contrast and clarity. The very slight miscut on the bottom and some light soiling on the reverse keeps this gem from receiving a higher grade. This is one of the most popular poses of Kelly in the Old Judge series. This is an outstanding, extremely high-grade Old Judge of the legendary Mike "King" Kelly, one of nineteenth-century baseball's greatest stars. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500+.
