Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Incredibly, this card has been consigned directly by the original owner, now 87 years old, who purchased this card as a youngster when it was issued in 1933 and has saved it ever since (along with the rest of his 1933 Goudeys, all of which are presented in this auction). In the 1970s, he became active as a collector in the organized hobby, buying more recent cards (mostly 1950s Topps and Bowman), and his entire collection is featured in this auction. Extremely attractive example of one of the most popular of all Lou Gehrig cards, and one of the most classic of all 1930s bubble-gum cards. The card is bright and clean, with strong colors, light even corner rounding, and centered slightly to the top. There is a diagonal crease near the upper right corner. The reverse of the card is also clean, with bold green text. This is an impressive and very fairly graded Vg-Ex example, relatively affordable yet sharing almost all of the qualities of a higher-graded example. SMR value in assigned grade is $1,250. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,304
