Complete set minus 2 (missing only Arbuckle and Vance) of 142 different 1919 Zeenut cards featuring Pacific Coast League players. The 1919 Zeenut set is comprised of players from eight different teams (Los Angeles, Oakland, Portland, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Seattle, and Vernon). A complete set (minus 2) such as this is very rarely seen. The amount of time and energy required to assemble any complete set of Zeenuts is great, but is especially the case when dealing with an early year such as 1919. All 1919 Zeenuts are scarce, and special highlights include Baum (a particularly popular PCL star), Bob Meusel (of special note due to his substantial career in the majors including as a key member of the 1927 Yankees' "Murderer's Row"), Bohne (of special note as an early Jewish star); and Pinelli (regarded by many as a particularly rare card in the set). There are many more; every player and every card has a story. We can't imagine too many sets of 1919 Zeenuts have ever been assembled. In all our years, this is only the second time we have ever offered a near-set of 1919 Zeenuts. Condition:
20% of the cards grade Vg (with a couple Vg-Ex), and 80% range from Pr to Gd-Vg. As is usually the case with Zeenuts, the coupon at the bottom of each card has been neatly clipped away, as intended, to be redeemed for valuable prizes. Also as is usually the case with Zeenuts, most of the cards (even those in the lowest grades) have a far superior appearance than suggested by their technically accurate modest grades. This "comes with the territory" with Zeenuts. We have provided scans of the entire collection online. Total: 142 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
