Collection of fourteen B18 blankets, all ranging in grade from Ex to Nr/Mt (averaging Ex-Mt overall), highlighted by Ty Cobb and Walter Johnson. These 5.25-inch squares of “flannel baseball cards” were issued in 1914, with several popular brands of tobacco. They are referred to as “blankets” because they were intended to be sewn together to create bed covers, pillowcases, etc. Often overlooked by collectors, B18s are beginning to be recognized both for their scarcity and for the exceptional value they represent compared to many other 1910-era baseball tobacco issues. Collection of fourteen B18s: (color refers to pennants, infield, or basepaths, per The Standard Catalog checklist): two Cavanaugh (white), Kavanaugh (Kavanagh), Chapman (purple), Ty Cobb (white), Gibson (purple), Gowdy (white), Hamilton (purple), Walter Johnson (green), Kelley (purple), Mann (white), Milan (green), Moriarty (white), and Tyler (brown). An impressive, small group, including legendary Hall of Famers Ty Cobb and Walter Johnson. Total: 14 blankets. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $1,067
