Graded NM-MT+ 8.5 by PSA. Highest-graded example! How strong can a card get and not be graded MINT? This card now answers that question. We grade this card MINT. This is a simply stunning and breathtaking ultra high-grade example of #30 Ty Cobb from the classic 1914 Cracker Jack series. It is by far the finest example of this card we have ever seen or offered. As the highest-graded PSA example, it is also the finest example ever seen by PSA. The 1914 Cracker Jack #30 Ty Cobb is universally recognized as one of card collecting's great classics, and one of Ty Cobb's most desirable and striking cards. In this unbelievable condition, it is all the more incredible. To put the remarkable condition and grade of this card in perspective, of the 2,666 1914 E145 Cracker Jacks of ALL players graded to date in the twenty-year history of PSA, only one 1914 Cracker Jack (this Ty Cobb card) has EVER graded NM-MT 8.5, and only two 1914 Cracker Jack cards of any player have EVER graded higher (two commons, #121 Hub Perdue and #139 Earnest Oakes, have graded MINT 9).
1914 Cracker Jacks are naturally much more difficult to find in high grade than their 1915 counterparts are because the 1914 #144 series cards were only issued in boxes of Cracker Jack, while the 1915 set could be obtained as a factory set directly from the company by mail. The card is perfectly preserved, with outstanding color, an extremely bold red background, a perfect surface, flawless registration, and with four razor-sharp corners. 1914 Cracker Jacks, of course, are almost always found with caramel staining, but this example has absolutely no caramel staining whatsoever, which is virtually unheard of with 1914 #144 Series Cracker Jacks. The reverse is perfectly crisp and clean, with unimprovable flawless bold print. We are not exactly sure how this card could be any better. It is simply magnificent in all respects. This is the highest-graded example of one of the most important of all Cracker Jack or Ty Cobb cards, literally one of the finest vintage cards in the universe, and one that would be a significant highlight and centerpiece in any world-class collection of 1914 Cracker Jack, Ty Cobb, or classic vintage baseball cards. The SMR value for a PSA NM-MT 8 is $42,000 (there is no SMR value for NM-MT+ 8.5 grades, so we have listed the NM-MT 8 value). Reserve $15,000. Estimate $30,000++.
