Graded VG 40 by SGC. Buck Weaver, a member of the infamous 1919 Black Sox, has reached cult status in the collecting world. His cards routinely sell for more than Hall of Famers from the same sets in which he appears. Unfortunately for collectors, Weaver appears in very few sets. This is an outstanding example of what is perhaps Buck Weaver's most majestic card: his 1911 T212 Obak Cigarettes card, which pictures him with San Francisco of the Pacific Coast League, before his Major League playing days with the Chicago White Sox. This is an extremely attractive card of Weaver in full uniform posing with his bat on his shoulder. This card is usually found in far lower grade, and the offered example appears at a glance to be in even stronger condition than its technically accurate grade. The card is very clean front and back, with a few extremely small, light surface creases (very difficult to see, and even then almost impossible to see except under close examination of the reverse), even wear to the somewhat square corners, flawless colors, and centered slightly to the bottom. This is a very strong and extremely attractive example of this early and important Buck Weaver tobacco card. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000+.
