Graded NM 84 by SGC. Portrait pose. Of the 904 examples (total includes all three T206 Cy Young poses) graded by SGC to date, only six examples have ever been graded higher (two NM+ 86, three NM/MT 88, and one MINT 96). Stunning high-grade SGC example of key Hall of Famer Cy Young from the classic T206 White Border series. This card was one of the condition highlights from a very substantial, totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction that was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. (These cards, which are presented in a total of ten lots in this auction, were actually consigned by the granddaughter of the gentleman who personally collected these cards in 1910!) The portrait pose has long been considered the most desirable of the three poses of Young in the T206 set. The offered example is a gem. The colors are bright and fresh and Young’s image is perfectly focused against the bold green background. The centering is virtually perfect and all four corners are sharp. The printing of the Sweet Caporal advertising on the back is bright and bold. This is a stunning ultra high-grade SGC example of this classic Cy Young card that would make a significant addition or upgrade to virtually any T206, Hall of Famer, or Cy Young card collection. The equivalent SMR value is $6,500. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000+. SOLD FOR $5,036
