Graded EX+ 70 by SGC. Presented is a stunning example of one of Ty Cobb's most classic cards. The T206 Ty Cobb bat-off-shoulder pose is one of the key cards in the set. This card was one of the condition highlights from a very substantial, totally untouched collection of 1910-era tobacco cards consigned to this auction that was saved for decades by the family of the original owner. The offered example has virtually perfect centering, particularly large, full borders, vibrant colors, and perfect registration. This is a sharp-looking card! Extremely clean both front and back, with four square corners displaying just the slightest hint of wear. Sweet Caporal advertising on reverse. Bright, crisp, and fresh. This is a very attractive card in all respects. It is also a case where it is very easy to appreciate the SGC half-grade system. It really is better than EX. EX-MT might be a little strong strictly due to a little too much corner wear (it would otherwise be a strong EX-MT), and EX simply does not begin to do justice to the card. The SMR does not provide a value for the EX+ 5.5 grade. The SMR value for a PSA EX 5 is $2,350 and the SMR value for a PSA EX-MT 6 is $3,300. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,500+.
