Graded EX+ 70 by SGC. Extremely attractive high-grade SGC example of one of the three classic poses of Christy Mathewson from the T206 White Borders series. The T206 Christy Mathewson portrait pose is one of the most popular of all T206s and all Mathewson cards. In addition to being in very high grade, the offered example is all the more noteworthy as the reverse has an advertisement for Sovereign Cigarettes (350 Subjects, forest green). Sovereign backs are unusual and very scarce, though not in the same league as the rarest of T206 backs (such as Lennox, Uzit, or Drum). This example is very well centered with extremely vibrant colors. Very strong in all respects, only a slight hint of light wear to upper right and lower left corners appears to keep this card from an Ex-Mt or better grade. This is a stunning card! Extremely clean, both front and back, bright and crisp, with snow-white borders. A very high quality example and a very interesting scarce-back variety (and with flawless reverse advertising printing) of this classic Christy Mathewson card. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
