Graded NM 84 by SGC. Magnificent high-grade example of what is universally recognized as one of Cobb's most striking cards. The Red Background pose has long been considered one of the great classics of the T206 set, and of all vintage cards. The offered example is a gem. It has a particularly striking portrait, and brilliant colors with a strong red background. Extremely crisp and clean, both front and back, with four strong and square corners displaying just the slightest hint of wear (predominately the upper left corner). Centered slightly toward the left border (approximately 45/55), with a very slight diamond cut. Boldly printed Sweet Caporal advertising on the reverse is centered to the left. An extremely attractive high-grade example of one of the key cards from the premier tobacco issue of the 1910 era. This T206 Cobb red background portrait would be at home and a highlight in any world-class T206, vintage Hall of Famer, or Ty Cobb card collection. The equivalent SMR value is $4,950. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000+.
