Graded EX 60 by SGC. One of the most stunning #311 Mantle rookie cards we have ever seen in this extremely desirable grade. Exceptionally attractive, crisp, clean, beautifully centered, high-grade example of 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's Topps rookie card is the key to the 1952 Topps set, one of the most famous of all cards, and the single most popular and valuable postwar baseball card. This is a magnificent example with brilliant colors. The deep blue background, which is so prone to wear, is essentially flawless and virtually unimprovable. The white interlocking "NY" on the front of Mickey's cap contrasts sharply against the dark navy blue of his cap. The corners are extremely strong and square, each with only the slightest touch of wear. Centered 60/40 left to right and approximately 45/55 top and bottom. This just-graded card is one of the highlights of the Rothman Collection, an exceptionally fine high-grade advanced collection assembled some twenty-plus years ago (long before third-party grading became popular). In 1990, this card would have been graded Nr/Mt-Mt. Though grading standards have changed a little over the years, the great appeal and merits of this card are the same today as when this card was purchased by Steven Rothman over twenty years ago. It is a gem! This is a spectacularly bright, fresh, clean, extremely strong (and far superior to what is normally seen for the grade) example of Mickey Mantle's most celebrated card. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+. SOLD FOR $16,590
