Two of the four classic poses of Ty Cobb from the T206 White Borders series, each very attractive but technically modest in grade. This lot includes examples of the red background portrait and bat-off-shoulder pose, both encapsulated by SGC. 1) The red-background card is one of the great classics of the set. This card has a strong portrait, perfect centering, rounded corners, and several creases. It is graded "Authentic" (as opposed to numerically) by SGC presumably due to evidence of a slight trim (note: we don't think this card is actually trimmed but do see a slightly unusual uneven cut along the top border). Polar Bear reverse. 2) The striking bat-off-shoulder pose is arguably the most attractive of Cobb's four poses in the T206 set. Hall of Famer Ty Cobb is captured in an intimidating batting pose, set against a deep, rich colorful background. This is a very attractive card, particularly for the grade. Beautifully centered, but graded GOOD 30 by SGC due to a few horizontal creases across the bottom portion of the card. Sweet Caporal reverse. This is a relatively affordable pair of classic original Ty Cobb tobacco cards, representing a potentially outstanding vintage card value. Total: 2 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
