Exceedingly rare collection of nine candy boxes issued by the Lefferts Novelty Company of Brooklyn, New York, in the early 1950s. These boxes are among the most novel candy containers we have ever seen. After the candy was eaten, the boxes could be opened up and reassembled into a cardboard train or truck. These are the first examples of these extremely rare candy boxes we have ever seen, and we cannot imagine that many other examples could possibly exist. The collection consists of the following: Six Trains: Cattle Car, Coal Tender, Oil Car, Steam Locomotive, and two others (the identifier on the bottom is torn away). Three Trucks: Ice Cream Truck, Laundry Truck, and Station Wagon. As far as condition goes this is a very pleasing group considering their age, complex design, intended use, and fragile nature. Aside from the two trains with their bottom flaps missing, the boxes are in Very Good condition. Each measure approximately 4 x 1.5 x 1.25 inches. Total: 9 boxes. Reserve $200. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $296
