Complete set of twenty-five 1889 N117 Duke "Industries of States" cards, all graded and encapsulated by SGC (all submitted by REA). Rarely offered high-grade complete set of these extremely popular and colorful tobacco cards, with nineteen cards ranging from Vg-Ex to Ex-Mt, one is Vg, and five Gd. This is an extremely strong set across the board, with almost all cards having a far superior appearance to the harsh SGC-assigned grades (as is often the case with nineteenth-century tobacco cards). The SGC grades are as follows: Four EX/NM 80: Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, and Virginia. Four EX+ 70: Delaware, Louisana, Michigan, and Tennessee. Nine EX 60: Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Mississippi, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Texas. Two VG/EX 50: Massachusetts and New York. One VG 40: Pennsylvania. Five GOOD 30: Connecticut, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Vermont. This exceptionally colorful set was issued with Duke's Honest Long Cut and Gail & Ax's Navy Long Cut tobacco brand (both are represented in this set). Each card (2-1/2 x 4-3/16 inches) features a colorful, graphically detailed lithographic image of a half-exposed woman with a shield representing a different state. The back of each card features a checklist of the set. This is an extremely attractive set with outstanding eye-appeal. The set is one of the favorites from the collection of a very advanced old-time nonsport collector. This very scarce issue is rarely seen as a complete set, and is highly prized by nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card collectors. Total: 25 cards. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $3,259
