One-sheet (27 x 41 inches) movie poster for the 1944 Universal release House of Frankenstein , starring Boris Karloff and Lon Chaney. Universal pulled out all the stops for this classic film, which featured many of its most popular monsters: "All Together..! Frankenstein's Monster! Wolfman! Dracula! Hunchback! Mad Doctor!" What fan of the genre could resist such a lineup? The only disappointment might have been that Karloff did not reprise his most famous role as Frankenstein's monster here, but instead was cast in the role as the "Mad Doctor." This has always been one of the most desirable of all Universal horror one sheets because it features portrait illustrations of all of the featured monsters, plus a large illustration of Frankenstein menacing the requisite damsel in distress. It is also scarce and should not be confused with the 1950 Realart one sheet for the rerelease of the film, which is very similar in design. The poster is linen backed and has benefited from professional restoration in repair of pinholes, small tears, and fold-line tears and cross-point separations. The poster displays an Excellent to Mint overall appearance. This is an outstanding example of this highly prized piece, with a universal appeal that transcends the collecting world and that would be a worthy centerpiece in any advanced horror-poster collection. Framed to total dimensions of 30 x 43 inches. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $5,000+. SOLD FOR $5,629
