This 1960 John F. Kennedy presidential campaign poster was signed by Kennedy in 1960 during the campaign, and is accompanied by absolutely impeccable provenance. The poster features a large portrait image of Kennedy, above which is lettered "Time For Greatness." Below his image is the standard declaration: "Kennedy For President." Kennedy has signed the piece in blue ink ("10") in the upper left. Fortunately, Kennedy scripted his name in the white portion of the piece, thus allowing for ideal contrast. The history of this piece is detailed in an accompanying letter provided by the original owner, Sharon Maloney, who was a Kennedy campaign worker. Ms. Maloney met Kennedy in 1960 while working at his campaign headquarters in Portland, Oregon. At the time, she was a high-school student attending St. Mary's Academy and worked on the Kennedy campaign as a volunteer after school. It was during one of Kennedy's visits to the headquarters that she had this poster, as well as a few other items, signed by him. Amazingly, the letter comes with a campaign publicity photo (copy only) picturing Maloney posing with Kennedy, with this very poster in her hand! In her own words she writes: "The photograph accompanying it was a professional promotional still for the campaign. I am in the center of the picture. It shows JFK just after he signed the poster, which I am holding in my left hand, and is about to sign the placard, which I am holding in my right hand." The poster (29 x 44.5 inches) is in Very Good to Excellent condition, with tack holes and a few border tears, some of which have been repaired on the reverse with tape. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $4,000+. SOLD FOR $4,740
