Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Presented is a stunning high-grade example of one of the great classics in all of card collecting: the extremely rare and desirable E90-1 American Caramel card of the legendary Joe Jackson. We rarely see this card in such outstanding condition. This particular card is very strong for the grade. In fact, we've seen higher-grade examples that don't hold a candle to this card. The E90-1 is one of just a handful of sets that include cards of Joe Jackson issued during his playing days. This card is also indisputably recognized as Joe Jackson's rookie card and is also one of the rarest in the entire E90-1 American Caramel card set. In recent years the E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson has become universally recognized as one of card collecting's most valuable and famous vintage-card rarities. Jackson was always a very rare card in the E90-1 set, but in recent years, it has become all the more apparent that this card is truly the key to the set. A few sets of E90-1 have been offered in recent years, but more often than not, they are really sets minus one card: Jackson. This card dates from extremely early in Joe Jackson’s career, when he was a member of Connie Mack’s Philadelphia A’s. Jackson played only ten games with the Athletics before Mack traded him to Cleveland. This is a strong example of this extremely rare and important card. Bright and clean, both front and back, with a striking image of Jackson leaning on his bat, no caramel stains, even wear to the corners, and virtually perfect centering. The couple extremely light surface creases on the bottom below the caption are most likely responsible for the card not receiving a higher grade. The reverse is also clean, with bold black print. As is so often the case with this card, the red representing Jackson's lips is placed slightly higher than intended. This is part of the charm of the E90-1 Joe Jackson. Very few E90-1 Jackson cards exist in high grade. PSA VG-EX 4 condition for an E90-1 Jackson is statistically much more significant than VG-EX condition for T205 or T206 tobacco cards. Of the sixty-two E90-1 Jacksons in the PSA population report, fifty-one are graded lower than this example; only six are graded higher (four EX 5 and two NM-MT 8 examples). These numbers speak for themselves! This is an extremely strong example, one of the finest known, and one of the highest-graded examples that we have ever offered, of one of card collecting's most legendary rarities. The SMR value for the assigned grade is $32,500. Reserve $10,000. Estimate $20,000+. SOLD FOR $32,588
