Collection of fifty different (out of 96) 1951 Topps "Ringside" boxing cards, entirely graded and encapsulated by PSA, highlighted by short print Bob Murphy. The 1951 Ringside set is of monumental significance as one of Topps' earliest major trading-card sets. For Topps, this is where it all began! The PSA condition report is as follows: One EX-MT 6: #33. Seven EX 5: #13, 15, 19, 21, 47, 64, and 67. One VG-EX+ 4.5: #37. Twelve VG-EX 4: #1, 5 Cerdan, 8 (MC), 11 Baer, 25, 38, 40, 42, 46, 56 Gans, 75, and 84. Thirteen VG 3: #7, 9, 34 Robinson vs. Servo, 45, 49 Murphy SP, 57, 58, 59 Corbett, 66, 68, 81, 85 Walcott vs. Charles, and 96 Charles. Ten GOOD 2: #14, 24 Braddock, 29, 36, 53, 65, 72 Ketchel, 78, 79, and 93. One FR 1.5: #39. Five PR 1: #71, 77, 80, 87, and 91. Topps' first attempt at boxing cards was in 1951 with the 96-card "Ringside" boxing series. The exceptional artwork and the inclusion of boxing greats from all eras have always made this set one of boxing-card collecting's premier issues. Topps apparently found much greater success with baseball and football. This is confirmed both by the relative scarcity of "Ringside" cards (they are much rarer than Topps baseball and football cards issued in 1951), and the fact that this was the only Topps boxing set ever issued. The quality of production of this issue, however, is equal or superior to that of all early 1950s bubble-gum cards issued by Topps or Bowman. This is an extremely attractive partial set of this classic 1950s Topps issue, with many cards bright and fresh, and overall with an appearance far superior to the technically accurate assigned grades. Total: 50 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $593
