Outstanding ultra high grade example of one of the most desirable and classic of all baseball celluloids. Rare 1910 Philadelphia Athletics celluloid pocket advertising mirror features portrait photos of the 1910 World Champion Philadelphia Athletics in tiny individual ovals, surrounding an advertisement in the center for the Equitable Loan Society of Philadelphia, a Philadelphia pawn shop. The seventeen players depicted are Collins (HOF), Baker (HOF), Bender (HOF), Plank (HOF), Murphy, Lord, Krause, Livingstone, Morgan, Davis, Houser, Lapp, Coombs, Thomas, Oldring, and Barry, plus the team's manager, Connie Mack (HOF). Distributed as an advertising giveaway, this pocket mirror measures 2-3/16 inches in diameter. This is a tremendous advertising mirror and one of the very best of all baseball celluloid items of the era. A similarly designed pocket mirror is also known for the 1909 National League Champion Pirates. The A's team mirror is by far the rarer of the two. This example has just a few insignificant marks to the mirror side (of no consequence) and otherwise is in spectacular essentially flawless Near Mint condition, with virtually perfect centering (which is extremely desirable as this can be a problem with this mirror), and with absolutely perfect contrast. As far as 1910-era celluloids go, it doesn't get much better than this gem. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $3,259
