Presented are two rare and unusual items featuring legendary Hall of Famer Honus Wagner. 1) Very sharp high-grade example of Honus Wagner from the 1911 Diamond Gum pinback series. Diamond Gum pins have long been recognized as one of the rarest and most desirable of all early baseball pinback sets. To the best of our knowledge, only one complete set of all twenty-nine known Diamond Gum pins has ever been assembled! This is a particularly desirable sample from this rare set as Wagner is pictured in the very same pose as appears on his famous T206 card. It is interesting to note that the Diamond Gum pin of Wagner is much rarer than the T206 Wagner, though of course this could be said of any specific player in the Diamond Gum pin set. The pin has absolutely no toning on the front (which is very rare as there is almost always toning with this issue; this example is an ideal "black-and-white") and is in Ex-Mt condition. The original back paper on the reverse is intact and advertises "Get A Collection of Ball Player's Buttons Free With Diamond Gum." Diameter: 7/8 inches. 2) 1909-1911 E254 Colgan's Chips card of Honus Wagner (very clean and attractive card, Ex). Wagner, of course, is not just one of the key stars of the set, but was also a spokesman for Colgan's, allowing his likeness to be used in Colgan's advertising and promotional materials. Accompanied by an original tin and protective round paper piece. Two extremely desirable, high-quality items that complement one another (both round, one a card and one a pin) featuring Honus Wagner in his famous T206 pose from two different 1910-era issues. Total: 2 items. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,896
