Nolan Ryan made his major league debut with the New York Mets on September 11, 1966, and one week later, on September 18th, he made his first career start. His last major league win came on August 15, 1993, in a game against the Cleveland Indians. Needless to say, in between those dates a lot happened: most notably 324 wins, a record 5,714 strikeouts, and a record seven no-hitters. Offered here are three rare souvenirs commemorating the start and end of one of the greatest pitching careers in baseball history. 1) New York Mets ticket stub for a game against the Atlanta Braves at Shea Stadium on September 11, 1966. Although both clubs were just playing out the schedule on this date, the 19,764 fans in attendance at least had the pleasure of witnessing the major league debut of one of the Mets' brightest young pitching prospects: Nolan Ryan. Ryan entered the game in the fifth inning and pitched two innings but did not factor in the decision. He allowed one run, one hit (a Joe Torre home run), walked one, and struck out three. This is the first ticket stub from that historic game we have ever seen. 3.25 x 1.5 inches. Ex-Mt, with a very tiny area of surface abrasion on the reverse. 2) Houston Astros program, from the first game of a double header against the New York Mets at the Houston Astrodome on September 18, 1966. This game marked Nolan Ryan's first career start and second career appearance. Unfortunately, Ryan only lasted one inning in recording the first loss of his career. He allowed four runs on four hits while walking two and, not surprisingly, striking out three. The program is neatly scored in ink and duly records Ryan's one inning of work. The sixty-page program (6.75 x 10 inches) remains in Excellent condition. 3) Original Cleveland Indians lineup card from the game against the Texas Rangers at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium on August 15, 1993. This is the actual lineup card that hung in the Cleveland dugout during the game and it lists the starting lineups for each club, as well as the reserves, and notes the changes made over the course of the game. Although no one in attendance that night would know until much later, this game marked the final win of Nolan Ryan's fabled career. Ryan pitched seven innings in the Rangers' 4-2 win. He allowed two hits, one run, walked two, and struck out two. It was his fifth win of the season and he ended the year with a record of 5-5. The card (9 x 14 inches) displays two punched holes along the top border and is in Excellent condition. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $830
