Exceptionally attractive sixteen-page large-format program issued for the 1924 World Series games between the Giants and Senators at the Polo Grounds. The cover features large portrait images of each club's respective manager, John McGraw and Bucky Harris, while the interior pages include photos of league and team officials, as well as portraits of twenty-four members of both the Giants and Senators. Published by Harry M. Stevens. The preprinted lineups include Frisch, Kelly, Youngs, and Lindstrom for New York, and Johnson, Harris, Rice, and Goslin for Washington. The program is not scored. The Senators defeated the Giants in an exciting seven-game Series in 1924. The final game hung in the balance for twelve innings before a two-out ground ball off the bat of Early McNeely took a bad hop over the head of third baseman Fred Lindstrom and scored Muddy Ruel from second with the winning run. The game also marked the end of John McGraw's 1920s dynasty, which saw his Giants capture five consecutive pennants and three World Championships between the years 1921 and 1925. The program (9.25 x 11 inches) displays a very light center vertical fold (not easily seen) and just a hint of minor wear to the covers, including a few small edge tears that extend into the pages. In our opinion, the great display value, historic significance, and rarity (which while universally recognized is actually far greater than most collectors even realize) makes World Series programs such as this magnificent example among the best values of all vintage baseball memorabilia in our opinion. A very strong example of this highly desirable early World Series program. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $400. Estimate $800+. SOLD FOR $948
