Graded EX 5 by PSA. Magnificent high-grade example of Mickey Mantle's true rookie card. This is a particularly stunning card for the PSA EX 5 grade! One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's Bowman rookie card is the key to the 1951 Bowman set, and one of the most popular and significant of all postwar baseball cards. This striking example has four square corners with just the slightest hint of wear, vibrant colors, and is extremely well centered (which is not often seen with the 1951 Bowman #253 Mantle rookie). Extremely clean with no distracting print lines as are so commonly found with this card. The back is also extremely clean, with no heavy wax wrapper or gum stains, which are often a problem with 1951 Bowmans. A very slight hint of toning on the borders appears to be the only factor responsible for the card not receiving a higher grade from PSA. This is a very appealing high-grade example with an overall appearance considerably stronger than its technically accurate grade of Excellent. This is also a particularly desirable grade for a Mantle rookie card. In lesser condition, this card always sells for a respectable sum since Mantle's rookie card is always in great demand in any condition; however, the card's value rises rapidly as its grade increases (all the way up to $100,000+ in Mint condition). A conservatively graded Excellent condition example is very difficult to find and arguably represents a particularly outstanding value for this all-time classic Mantle card. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $4,700
