Graded EX 5 by PSA. Exceptionally attractive example of Mickey Mantle's true rookie card in Excellent condition. This is a stunning card in an extremely desirable grade. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's Bowman rookie card is the key to the 1951 Bowman set, and one of the most popular of all postwar baseball cards. The text on the reverse only hints at his future place in history ("Mickey is the Yankee rookie of whom so much is expected in 1951. Everyone was talking about him in spring training..."). This extremely striking example has a hint of light wear on the corners, a tiny corner bend in the lower left and upper right, and 70/30 L/R centering. This is a crisp card with bright colors and perfect registration. The faint hint of a vertical print line on Mantle's sleeve is very common with this card. The back is also very clean, with just a slight hint of lightening (not in the least affecting legibility) and no gum stains (which is often a problem with 1951 Bowmans). This is a very appealing example in Excellent condition of one of Mantle's most desirable and significant cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $2,938
