Collection of nine high-grade early-career baseball cards for five baseball superstars who have recently been linked to the use of performance-enhancing drugs during their careers: Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa, and Rafael Palmeiro. The use of performance-enhancing drugs, most notably steroids, by many of the game's top stars in the past twenty years has resulted in one of the most high-profile scandals in baseball history. The biggest question now, of course, is how to fairly assess their respective achievements in light of the allegations. For McGwire, who has been denied Hall of Fame admission during each of his first three years of eligibility, the jury has already spoken. With regard to the four other players here, all of whom also seemed to be certain Hall of Famers just a few years ago, only time will tell. This collection of high-grade cards includes either the earliest, or one of the earliest, cards ever issued for the respective player, with all of the cards grading "MINT 9" or higher by either PSA or BVG (Beckett). 1) 1984 Fleer Update #U-27 Roger Clemens (PSA GEM MINT 10). 2) 1984 TCMA #22 Roger Clemens (PSA MINT 9). 3) 1985 Chong Modesto A's #17 Mark McGwire/correct spelling (PSA GEM MINT 10). 4) 1985 Topps #401 Mark McGwire (PSA GEM MINT 10). 5) 1986 Topps Traded Tiffany #11 Barry Bonds (BVG GEM MINT 9.5). 6) 1987 Leaf #43 Rafael Palmeiro (BVG GEM MINT 9.5). 7) 1987 Procards #1789 Sammy Sosa (PSA MINT 9). 8) 1989 Donruss Baseball's Best #324 Sammy Sosa (BVG GEM MINT 9.5). 9) 1990 Leaf #220 Sammy Sosa (PSA GEM MINT 10). Total: 9 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,058
