Graded NM 84 by SGC. Highest-graded example by SGC! Extraordinary ultra high-grade N172 Old Judge baseball card featuring Chicago's star pitcher Fido Baldwin in a striking portrait pose. There are very few portraits in the N172 Old Judge series (a total of only thirty-nine portrait poses featuring thirty different subjects, including many rarities). Because they are so distinctive, collectors have always gravitated toward them. Baldwin was one of the most productive players in the league from 1888 to 1892. His statistics speak for themselves ("his ERA was as low as 2.76, strikeout totals as high as 376 and win totals as high as 34"). As suggested by its NM 84 SGC grade, this is an extraordinary high-grade Old Judge. It is bright, crisp, and perfectly clean, both front and back, with a flawless portrait image, superb contrast, and sharp corners. This is a particularly magnificent and very distinctive ultra high-grade N172 Old Judge portrait example of one of the most prominent pitching stars of the era, and one of the few stars to be honored with a portrait card in the Old Judge set. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000.
