The 1951 Red and Blue Back sets are extremely significant as these were the first major baseball card-sets ever issued by Topps. Offered as a single lot are complete sets of both the 1951 Topps Red Backs and 1951 Topps Blue Backs, each with 52 cards, for a total of 104 cards. 1) 1951 Topps Red Back (52): Thirty-four cards range from Vg-Ex to Ex, and eighteen cards are Vg (still great-looking cards, downgraded due to various extremely minor factors). Keys: #1 Berra (Vg-Ex), 5 Rizzuto (Vg-Ex), 6 Reynolds (Vg), 8 Wynn (Vg-Ex), 15 Kiner (Vg-Ex), 16 Roe (Vg), 20 DiMaggio (Vg-Ex), 22 Feller (Ex), 24 Bauer (Vg-Ex), 30 Spahn (Ex), 31 Hodges (Vg), 38 Snider (Ex), 39 Kluszewski (Vg-Ex), 50 Irvin (Vg-Ex), 52A Holmes/Hart. (Vg-Ex). 2) 1951 Topps Blue Back (52): Eighteen cards range from Vg-Ex to Ex, twenty-two cards are Vg, and twelve are lesser. Keys: #1 Yost (Fr), 3 Ashburn (PSA NM-MT 8), 6 Schoendienst (Pr-Fr), 9 Sain (Vg), 10 Page (Ex), 20 Branca (Vg), 30 Slaughter (Gd), 37 Doerr (Vg), 39 Lopat (Vg-Ex), 45 Pierce (Vg/Vg-Ex), 50 Mize (Gd), 52 Chapman (Vg). Though the cards in these sets are in varying grades, across the board the cards certainly have a bright, fresh, clean appearance that is far superior to the technically assigned grades. These are extremely attractive (relatively modestly valued) sets! The 1951 Red and Blue Back Topps sets are among the most significant, yet overlooked, of all early Topps cards, and in our opinion represent an extraordinary value. The one PSA NM-MT 8 of Ashburn has an SMR value of $350. Total 104 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800+. SOLD FOR $1,293
