Graded NM 7 by PSA. One of only three examples graded at this level by PSA with just two graded higher. This is an extraordinarily sharp, ultra high-grade example of one of Joe Jackson's most classic cards. These cards frequently have condition problems that technically don't allow them to grade highly. This is a rare exception, and a simply stunning example of one of the most iconic of all classic vintage cards. All Jackson cards are naturally rare. Despite playing for thirteen years before his banishment, very few cards of Joe Jackson were issued during his playing days: he was not a regular in 1910, therefore was not included in the tobacco issues of that time, and his banishment from baseball following the 1920 season prevented his inclusion in the popular American Caramel and related issues of 1921. Besides a few strip-card issues, there are just not many cards that feature Jackson with his infamous team, the White Sox. The Sporting News and associated sets are by far the most popular of all his White Sox cards as they picture the star in a classic Conlon batting pose. This is, in fact, the same picture that is used for his Cracker Jack card. This is an outstanding and extremely attractive example in all respects. M101-5 cards have a glossy coated surface which is very susceptible to creasing. This card has no creases. The front is bright and clean. The image is crisp and has perfect contrast. The corners are sharp and square, with just the slightest hint of wear visible only under magnification. The card is centered approximately 65/35 L/R with a very slight natural diamond cut. The blank back is perfectly clean with just a hint of toning. This is an extraordinary and accurately graded world-class 1916 M101-5 Sporting News Joe Jackson, literally one of the best examples in the universe, and a card worthy of the finest Joe Jackson or rare vintage baseball-card collection. SMR value is $17,500. Reserve $5,000. Estimate $10,000+.
