Graded NM/MT 88 by SGC. Highest-graded example to date by SGC or PSA! In fact, the next highest grade by SGC is a VG/EX 50 and the highest grade by PSA is a GOOD 2. Stunning example of one of the most elusive of all Chick Gandil cards. The card features a very unusual throwing pose of Gandil, which appears only in the Boston Store set (and related issues). This is very likely the finest example in the universe of this extraordinary rarity! The 1917 Boston Store cards are extremely difficult to find in high grade. Like their E135 Collins-McCarthy counterparts, Boston Store cards are rarely offered in any condition. Unlike the somewhat similar 1916 Sporting News card set, these cards were never issued as complete sets to the public. They were also produced on a slightly thinner stock that is far more susceptible to wear, and with a very glossy surface which is very prone to creasing. Boston Store cards are usually encountered one card at a time and in low grade. To find even a common card in Nr/Mt-Mt condition is virtually impossible, let alone of future "Black Sox" member Chick Gandil. Decades ago a perfect set of Boston Store cards surfaced. Judging from the incredible condition of this card, we would be very surprised if this gem did not originate from that legendary high-grade set. Bright, crisp, and perfectly clean front and back, with sharp corners, perfect contrast, and flawless glossy surface. The Boston Store advertisement on the reverse is virtually flawless and centered to the far right. This is an extraordinary world-class card that would be a highlight in even the most advanced noteworthy vintage-card or Black Sox collection. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $1,763
