Extraordinary collection of eight scarce variation cards, representing four different players (two of each), from the 1912 T207 Brown Background set, naturally in high demand by collectors assembling master T207 sets. This is a special group for anyone collecting T207s. The Davis "Blue C on Cap" variation card is of particular note, as this is a card that advanced T207 collectors have been puzzled about for years, some questioning whether it actually exists (and it most certainly does, as can be seen here!); and others questioning that if it does exist, should it be recognized as a true variation and addition to the checklist, or some type of printing error that makes it an interesting variation that should not be a formal checklist addition. We can't tell collectors what they want to consider a formal checklist variation, but we can confirm that the cap on the variation card is distinctly blue, and certainly relates to the same factors that explain the other blue-related variations in the set (Fisher and Austin, both variations of each are also included in this lot). This is a fascinating lot that has been separated from what is by far the greatest T207 assembled set in the history of collecting, offered in twenty-nine lots in this auction. Each card is graded and encapsulated by PSA: 1) Austin/insignia on shirt
(VG/EX 4, only one example graded higher); 2) Austin/no insignia
(EX-MT 6, highest graded!); 3) Davis/brown "C"
(NM-MT 8 [OC], highest graded!); 4) Davis/blue "C"
(EX-MT 6, highest graded!); 5) Fisher/blue cap
(EX-MT 6, only one example graded higher); 6) Fisher/white cap
(EX-MT 6, highest graded!); 7) Mullin/"D" on cap
(EX-MT 6 [OC]); 8) Mullin/no "D"
on cap (VG-EX 4). Four of the cards are the highest-graded examples on the PSA population report. The T207 Brown Background set is one of card collecting's most popular sets. This is a fascinating group of particularly significant T207s. These cards would fill holes in most near-complete sets, and naturally provide upgrades or fill holes in virtually any master T207 set in the process of being assembled. Total 8 cards. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $6,463
