This is an incredible group of highlights from the most extraordinary set of T207s ever assembled (presented in twenty-nine lots in this auction): Collection of three extremely high-grade rarities from the 1912 T207 Brown Background set, all graded and encapsulated NM-MT 8 by PSA. All T207s graded PSA NM-MT 8 are extremely rare. The numbers speak for themselves: Out of 4,213 T207s graded in the entire history of PSA, only twenty-seven T207s have graded PSA NM-MT 8, two PSA MINT 9s (one with a qualifier), and no 10s. The fact that these three cards are each rarities in the set, and are in such high grade (the finest examples in existence for each), is remarkable. Each card represents by far the highest-graded example by PSA. 1) Joseph Benz. Beautifully centered, with an essentially flawless surface, and with virtually perfect corners. Extremely striking red Cycle Cigarettes advertisement on the back. This is an unbelievably strong example of one of the key rare cards in the condition-sensitive T207 set. (Of the only nine examples of Benz ever graded by PSA, the next highest graded example is a PSA 6 with a qualifier, and after that the next highest is a VG-EX 4.) 2) Jacques Fournier. Bright and clean, with four sharp corners, and perfect registration. Red Cycle Cigarettes back. (Only eight examples of Benz have been graded to date by PSA ; the next highest graded example is an EX 5.) 3) Eugene Woodburn. Centered a hint towards the bottom, and a striking portrait image. (Only twelve examples of Woodburn have been graded to date by PSA; the next highest graded example is a PSA 7 with a qualifier, then a PSA 6.) Broadleaf Cigarettes back. T207 Brown Backgrounds are particularly challenging to collect due to the many rarities included in the set. This is an incredibly sharp-looking, ultra high-grade collection of three significant T207 rarities, each in a virtually unheard of PSA NM-MT 8 grade. Total 3 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+.
