There are two variations of Otis Crandall in the T205 Gold Border set, relating to the spelling on the signature that identifies him on the front of his card. On one variation, the "t" in "Otis" is not crossed and appears as an "l". This error was corrected in the middle of the print run, with a crossed "t" to properly spell "Otis". The variations are checklisted in The Standard Catalog as 41a and 41b. Presented are both Otis Crandall variations, both in high-grade, and both graded by PSA or SGC: 1) “T” crossed in name (SGC EX/NM 80). Bright and crisp, with bold colors, flawless registration, square corners with a hint of wear at the extreme tips, and otherwise with virtually flawless gold borders. It is bright and perfectly clean, both front and back. Centered approximately 25/75 left to right. Advertisement for Piedmont Cigarettes on reverse. 2) “T” not crossed in name (PSA EX-MT 6). This is a very strong example, with just a hint of light, even wear at the corners (and otherwise virtually perfect gold borders), bright colors, and a clean image. Advertisement for Piedmont Cigarettes on reverse. This very attractive pair of rare high-grade T205 Gold Borders variations ideal would make ideal contributions to the assembly of a high-grade master set. There appears to be no formal consensus of value in guides on these T205 variation rarities. We are confident the auction process will provide clarity with reference to value. Total 2 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+. SOLD FOR $705
