Fascinating collection of nineteenth and early twentieth-century tobacco cards including a few significant rarities, spanning the years from 1888 to 1914, with representation of seven different issues: 1) 1888 N28 Allen & Ginter (3 cards): Daly (billiards, Gd-Vg), Frey (pool, pencil mark on back, otherwise Vg), and Vignaux (billiards, corner chip in the lower right, otherwise Vg-Ex). 2) 1889 N29 Allen & Ginter (18 cards): Crist (cyclist, Gd), East (oarsman, Vg), Ives (cyclist, Gd), Lange (walker, Gd), McGee (pugilist, Gd-Vg), J. Murphy (pugilist, Vg-Ex), Myers (runner, Vg), O'Connor (oarsman, Vg-Ex), Ross (all-around athlete, Vg-Ex), Webb (swimmer, Vg), and Wood (cyclist, Vg/Vg-Ex); seven cards are slightly trimmed: Albert (pedestrian), Barry (hammer thrower), Daly (all-around athlete), Ford (all-around athlete), Hill (club swinger), Ray (pole vaulter), and Stone (cyclist). 3) 1909-1911 T206 White Border: Kling (Vg, brown Hindu back). 4) 1910 Plow Boy Tobacco: Zeider (Vg-Ex/Ex condition, with a little general wear to the corners but no creases). Unusual sepia-toned 1910 cabinet-card issue which features Cubs and White Sox players, issued by the Spaulding & Merrick Tobacco Company to promote their Plow Boy Tobacco brand. Regionally issued in the Chicago area, Plow Boy Tobacco cards were issued with two different advertising reverses. (This example has the simple ad back variety.) 5) 1912 T207 Brown Background: Mogridge (slightly trimmed, Cycle back). 6) 1914 T216 Kotton Tobacco (3 cards): Lobert (Cinn., Pr-Fr), Murphy (Bklyn., Vg), and Oakes (Gd-Vg). 7) 1914 T216 Mino Cigarettes (2 cards): Miller (fielding, St. Louis, Vg-Ex) and Sweeney (Pr).
