Graded EX+ 70 by SGC. One of just three examples graded at this level by SGC, with only three cards graded higher (and only two examples graded higher by PSA). This is a stunning card! Spectacular high-grade example of Hall of Famer Honus Wagner in a batting pose from the E95 Philadelphia Caramel series, one of Wagner's most beautifully designed cards and one of the key cards from this rare and classic 1910-era candy set. The image on this card is unique to the set. The E95 Philadelphia Caramel card of Honus Wagner is one of his most highly prized cards in any grade, but this is a particularly strong example in all respects with tremendous eye-appeal. Bright and clean, both front and back, with brilliant colors, just a hint of even wear to the corners, and well centered with a very slight tilt to the image. The reverse is virtually flawless, with a very sharply printed checklist for the set. This card would be in magnificent condition for any card issued in 1909, but is all the more so for a caramel card, which because they were issued with candy, one card per package, tend to survive in lesser condition than their more common tobacco-card counterparts. This card is a gem! It is an extraordinary high-grade example of one of Wagner’s most desirable cards from one of the most popular and colorful of all “E” card issues, and one that would be a highlight in any extremely high quality classic, Hall of Fame, E95, or Honus Wagner card collection. The equivalent SMR value for the assigned grade is $5,500. Reserve $1,500. Estimate $3,000/$5,000+.
