Complete set (minus 1) of 1910 T211 Red Sun Tobacco cards. Missing only Fritz for completion. 12% grade Vg-Ex (includes a couple Ex), 65% range from Gd to Vg, and 23% are in slightly lesser grade. To the best of our knowledge, this is an unprecedented offering, at least in modern times! We have never even seen a set or near-set of T211 presented for sale or auction, and large collections or near-sets of this rare issue are virtually unheard of. (In fact, to the best of our knowledge, no one has ever completed the T211 Red Sun Tobacco set. With seventy-four of the seventy-five cards, of course, this collection is very close.) The seventy-four cards presented here represent more T211 Red Sun tobacco cards in total than we have handled in the past forty years, our entire history in the hobby. This is an incredible offering!

The T211 set is comprised of seventy-five different players from the Southern Association. T211 Red Sun are one of the rarest and (in large part because of their rarity) most overlooked of all tobacco-card issues. They share the same designs as the eighth series of the 1910 T210 Old Mill set, which are universally recognized as among the rarest cards in the T210 set. While every card in this lot is much rarer than the T206 Wagner, we cannot help but note that one player in this collection of T211 cards is named "Wagner". This lot consists of the following: Allen, Anderson, Babb, Bartley, Bay, Bayliss, Berger, Bernhard, Bitroff, Breitenstein, Bronkie, Brooks, Cafalu, Case, Chappelle, Cohen, Cross, Daly, Davis, DeMontreville, E. DeMontreville, Dick, Dunn, Erloff, Fisher, Flood, Foster, Greminger, Gribbon, Griffin, Gygli, Hanks, Hart, Hess, Hickman, Hohnhorst, Huelsman, Jordan, Kane, Kelly, Kerwin, Keupper, LaFitte, Lindsay, Lynch, Manush, McCreery, Miller, Molesworth, Moran, Nolley, Paige, Pepe, Perdue, Pratt, Rhoton, Robertson, Rogers, Rohe, Seabough, Seitz, Siegle, Smith, Sid Smith, Steele, Swacina, Sweeney, Thomas, Vinson, Wagner, Walker, Welf, Wilder, and Wiseman. T211 Red Sun Tobacco cards are among a small selection of elite sets that have long captured the imagination of many of the most legendary collectors, from the earliest days of serious collecting, perhaps more so in years past than even in recent times. The reason many great early collectors prized these cards so highly is twofold: 1) These cards could not (and cannot) simply be purchased in set form. They are rare! They have to be collected. They are a challenge. 2) Ultimately, cards are about the players that are featured. Many of the players in T211 are featured in few or no other sets. These characteristics make the green-bordered T211 Red Sun set especially significant to the game of baseball and to the world of baseball cards, and especially appealing to the most sophisticated collectors. T211 Red Sun cards also have a very distinctive design with striking player poses, and a very attractive and unique advertising back design. This set (minus one card) has been locked away in the collection of one of the hobby's great pioneer collectors (who passed away in 2009) for decades. It has always been one of the most extraordinary and rare prize sets of his collection and is being offered by his family. Total: 74 cards. Reserve $5,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $88,125
