Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Presented is Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson, one of the key cards from the extremely rare M110 Sporting Life cabinet set issued in 1911. This auction includes the complete M110 set, assembled and presented by the same consignor, with each card offered individually. Each card in the set features beautiful full-color pastel artwork on the front and advertising for Sporting Life on the reverse. M110s are similar in design to, but far rarer than, the contemporary T3 Turkey Red cabinets. This one of the rarest and most beautiful of all Christy Mathewson cards. Bright and clean, both front and back, with no creases, and just the slightest hint of corner wear. The few marks in the background of the card give the appearance of insignificant pencil marks, but these are, in fact, not pencil marks at all. These light lines as well as the light "grill pattern" on the border is natural wear that is unique to M110s, which have extremely sensitive surfaces and, because of exactly how they were produced, respond to pressure and light abrasions differently than other cards. The light marks do not affect the image or the integrity of the card, which is otherwise in overall Excellent condition. Dimensions: 5-5/8 x 7-1/2 inches. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000+.
