Presented is Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson, one of the key cards from the extremely rare M110 Sporting Life cabinet set issued in 1911. M110s are similar in design to, but far rarer than, the contemporary T3 Turkey Red cabinets. Each card in the set features beautiful full-color pastel artwork on the front and advertising for Sporting Life on the reverse. This one of the rarest and most beautiful of all Christy Mathewson cards. This example has a few very small, light creases mostly in the border areas, an erasure mark on the top border, and very minor faint evidence of pencil writing (which has been erased) along the top of the reverse. SGC encapsulated this card as "Authentic" as opposed to giving it a numerical grade because it has a very unusual cut which we have never seen before. This card is not trimmed but appears to possibly be sheet-cut as is evidenced by the thin white strip (from the sheet's proof margin) running along the extreme left edge. This card presents a rare opportunity to acquire an attractive example of one of Christy Mathewson’s most significant cards from one of the rarest baseball-card sets of the era at a small fraction of the cost of a higher-grade example. Dimensions: 5-5/8 x 7-1/2 inches. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000++. SOLD FOR $1,763
